Ok, I am 10 months post op. I dump more now than I every have and I try to eat what I'm supposed to. And the things I dump on aren't carb items. I've dumped a number of times on protein bars that contain only 1gm of sugar and no or little sugar alcohols. Sometimes I dump on nuts (I love to snack on a nut mix of almonds, cashews, pecans and pistachios) and milk. Go figure!
Last night was an interesting one...I dumped after going on a couple rides at a carnival! One was the zipper and the other the Tilt-o-Whirl. I guess the adrenaline rush did it. I know it wasn't food because it was at least an hour or so that I had eaten and was only drinking water.
Has anyone else had these experiences of dumping on non-carb items? If so, have you understood why.
Hi Laura, I get that feeling if I eat too fast!!! And I am guilty of that. I have also dumped on protien bars that were very low on sugar but had real cocoa in them. And once on peanut butter too. The one thing that helps me when it happens is to drink water. I seem to get some relief and it feels like it's pushing the "bad" stuff through.
I'll have to wait for our State Fair to see if the rides do it???? I hope not!
Well, I just had one of my follow-ups with the surgeon and I asked him about it. He said that sometimes drier foods OR foods that demand more fluids from my body may be doing it. He said I should increase my fluids. I do struggle to get all my fluids in a day, so I can believe that is the issue. He really wants me to monitor my eating and fluid intake to see if I see that pattern.
Good luck at the fair! Make sure you're well hydrated..hehe.
