Hello:
I am just having my first dumping episode. Anxiety and sweating for me.
What caused it? Melted cheddar cheese with crackers.
I've had the cube cheese before with the crackers just fine, but i only had the shredded tonight, so I though it would be a good idea to melt it... NOT!
I am feeling a bit better now (30 mins after), after having paced all around the house for the half hour.
It has definitely beena learning experience! I am more determined to follow the guidelines strictly now.

YEAH doggie...dumping ain't fun!! Certainly teaches ya something!! What part of the melted cheese and crackers do ya think you dumped on?? How far out are you? Sometimes, I dump if I drink too close after my meal!! I also tend to dump if I have something that is too greasy or has too much carb...like I dumped on popcorn one time when I had some. Did you eat too fast? Just wondering...not trying to be nosy!!

Hi Ivonne. Sorry you had such a bad experience. I only have had one and it was with a different high protein drink that I tried. It is not a pleasant experience for sure. I'm doing very well and feel great. Like I am starting my whole life over. In a month my husband and I are moving into our own (kid free) place for the first time in 28 years and I am starting to feel like a blushing bride. Whoo hoo!

| I am pretty sure it was the melted cheddar. I think it was too much fat, and it probably went down like a big blob. Also, since it was melted, I probably had more of it than I would have otherwise. I gave the doc a call last night to ask if I could take anything (like my Xanax) to help with the symptoms... he said no, but that I should walk and move around. It did help a lot. I started pacing on the lanai, and felt better quite quickly. He said that melted cheese is not a good choice, and that I probably want to be careful with cheese as a rule because of the high fat content.

That sounds great, Cindy! Good luck!
We are also in for a lot of changes this year. We are purchasing an RV and plan to do a lot of traveling with daddy's job, instead of staying behind missing him. Since I already homeschool the kids, it will be not a problem.
That is part of the reason I had the surgery now, because the RV lifestyle at 300+ pounds would be very difficult. I am so excited about going to all these great places and being able to walk and hike and everything! I can't wait!
I've already noticed a difference when we have been to the dealers in that it is not as difficult to get up in the RV's, and I've only lost 28 pounds so far!
Take care,
-Ivonne

Oh, Sharon, I forgot to tell you... I am 6 weeks out. I don't think I ate it fast, but I was watching TV (I know, not good), so I could have.

| Ivonne and Cindy: love your stories. They are just oh so helpful. Will be joining you soon! I am so afraid of dumping! It sounds downright disgusting. Get over it, right? I'll survive! Deb (Surgery 1.17.06)

| You will get over it. It's not the most pleasant censation but if you follow all the rules it won't happen too much. I only had it happen once and I learned from it real fast.

Actually, I like the fact that we dump when we don't do or eat the right things!! It sure does make ya remember for the next time!! Everytime I look at popcorn now...its a no go!!

| I agree that it is a real effective tool. Makes me really slow down and think about what I am putting into my mouth.

| Yeah, the tool part of the dumping sounds very helpful. It's the mystery of not knowing for sure what will make you dump. I can understand refined sugar, but water or protein shakes or who knows what -- it's that part that makes me think you must be squeamish about putting anything in your mouth or pouch! Thanks as always. Deb

Well, I mean, its not THAT bad Deb!! I mean EVERYTHING you put in your mouth is not going to make you dump! When you are first starting out and learning what you can and cannot eat...you try a bite and wait. Give your pouchy a chance to send you a signal. If nothing happens, take another bite. You just have to introduce new foods slowly so you learn what YOU can tolerate and what you cannot tolerate. Now, don't get me wrong...in all likelihood, somewhere down the line, you're gonna make a mistake and dump...and it ain't pleasant...but, we all get over it and learn for next time.

Okay, I'll trust you on this, Sharon! Y'all make it sound AWFUL. But then I am a little pre-surgery sensitive these days, looking a lot like PMS actually ...or perimenopausal days....thanks....all my friends including my husband are going to deserve sainthood if I'm not careful. Deb

Hey Deb:
Look at it this way .. . . (this will sound really harsh) if you take a bite of something and it makes you feel bad and you keep eating it, well, you deserve to feel bad. We CANNOT say this enough, making good choices and paying attention to your body signals are paramount to your success. Not everyone dumps but most experience some form of it at least once and even when you're as careful as can be, you can still experience it. It's not life threatening and it's not going to hospitalize you, but it is a good reminder of what to do or not to do. It's just uncomfortable.
Don't worry . . dumping is actually a good thing if you put it all into perspective.

Hi Cindy,
I have been wondering how you are doing. I am six weeks out and have lost 30 but my doctor has said I need to move more so a walk today ought to get me moving. Are you excited about all the changes in your life? I know I am and it seems like I have overcome the "fear of loosing" I always knew that when I started a weight loss program that therte was a little fear in the back of my head that kept saying, "What if this doesn't work?" and it always got to me, eventually, because it never worked for long. But, now I have a completly different attitude. Now I wait to see what my body will do. I know I move differently and have a different "center" to my being. And sometimes it almost feels like my body is shedding the outside of me, the weight between who I look like now and who I am on the inside.
Keep doing well,
Barbara

I'm doing well. Am down 35 lbs and feel like you do. My body is changing so fast and I can't wait to get up every morning to see what is new. Like a butterfly coming out of the cocoon.
